Milton View shares thoughts on election turnout and strong Town Administrator

The Milton View, authored by Phil Matthews, recently published a couple of posts. One takes a view of the recent election, specifically the turnout, and how it compares to past comparable elections.  Mr. Matthews finds the turnout “disturbing.” We share that view. You can find it here.

Matthews also has a post on an article in the warrant to be taken up by Town Meeting this week that concerns expanding the responsibilities of the Town Administrator. It is arguably the most important non-budget article on the warrant. It represents a significant change in how the town operations are managed. In short the recommendation of the Town Government Study Committee is to relieve the Board of Selectmen of certain day to day responsibilities and make them part of the TA function. As Mr. Matthews notes at the beginning of his post:

This article asks the Town Meeting to codify and strengthen the role of the Town Administrator as the town’s chief operating officer. It represents the recommendation of the Town Government Study Committee, of which I am a member.
