To all Neponset River in Milton waterfront Riverwalkers, boaters, wannabe boaters, future Yacht Club members, outdoor enthusiasts, parents of rowing team members, coaches, kayakers, and general interested gawkers:
A Milton Yacht Club work party is scheduled for this Saturday, April 25th beginning at 10:00 a.m. Visitors can see for themselves how the historic marine railway is used for the maintenance of the Milton Landing for public marine access to the estuary and beyond to Boston Harbor, the Atlantic Ocean, and hence the world. Also, visitors will see what wonders can be performed without any Town funding whatsoever (in fact, MYC has to pay the Town for the privilege).
For the last two weeks we worked on the main float (dock). The plan for Saturday is to finish painting the gangway, etc. and to set it in place on the newly-decked and cross-braced main float. We will also be inspecting the dinghy docks and replacing any decking that is necessary to repair. With a high tide at 5:41 p.m., we plan to launch the main float at approximately 3:30 p.m., and attach the gangway to enable public access to begin. (The extension float was a total loss and went into a dumpster in pieces last week. It will be re-built from scratch beginning next week.) As time allows, we also plan to launch the mooring ‘plucker’ and some, if not all, of the dinghy docks.
This will be a long and busy day, but it is a key activity to get the Milton Landing season finally underway.
The Club members who perform this work (and any active volunteers helping out) will be refreshed with a hot dog and hamburger lunch from the outdoor grill, and members are asked to make a “small” donation. Workers should bring their own water bottles or other beverages.
Thank You,
Spencer Day, MYC Treasurer on behalf of MYC House Committee
Thanks for posting. We look forward to having our neighbors see all the activity.
