Book chats with Milton Public Library director Will Adamczyk have become on the library’s most popular programs. On Tues. March 24, 7:00-8:30 PM, Adamczyk lead a conversation about this seasons Milton Reads selection The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
This NY Times Best Selling book tells the story of the University of Washington eight-oar rowing team that made it to the 1936 Olympics. The back-drop of pre-war Berlin and the personal stories of these working class young men makes for a great read. No need to be a literary scholar or Olympic athlete to enjoy the book or participate in the book chat. It will take place in the downstairs conference room and, of course, the event is free.
Milton Reads is an annual town-wide reading program in which everybody shares in a single cultural experience: reading the same book. Milton Reads is sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Library.
The Boys in the Boat and Olympics-related materials have been immensely popular, and the library has acquired many more copies, including e-copies, of the book. Check it out from the library!
Upcoming events related to The Boys in the Boat include Trivia! at ester restaurant 3/29, film showing “Miracle” 3/23, film showing “Unbroken” 3/30, and a final event with Olympic rowers 3/31.
