Six years ago, a group of Fuller Village residents undertook the daunting project of producing a collection of memoirs aptly entitled We Remember When. What motivated them to undertake that project was their realization that Fuller Village is made up of a unique cross section of independent senior citizens, each having one or more very special memories. The committee strongly felt those memories would be of interest to others, both near and far.
The result of that committee’s efforts, coupled with the efforts of those who undertook the challenge of authoring a memoir, was a 236-page book containing 90 memoirs that detail memorable events in the authors’ lives.
Since the original collection of memoirs, We Remember When, was published in January 2011, many changes have occurred, not the least of which is the arrival of scores of new residents. That, coupled with the fact that many residents who were here when the original memoir was published did not submit a memoir, has led to murmurings and rumors of a sequel. Well, guess what, it’s true!
Fuller Village resident Betsy Buchbinder said, “There is a wonderful diversity of residents living in Fuller Village representing a wide variety of backgrounds. Their stories reflect the strength, ingenuity and perseverance of the times in which they lived: their perspectives are stories that should be preserved.” When hearing about the second volume, Ms. Felton, Executive Director of Fuller Village expressed her gratitude and excitement for Volume II. “I am constantly pulling the book from my shelf and rereading my residents’ stories about their lives. These memoirs enrich our lives and give me a sense of what the “greatest” generation went through.”
