The Milton Police posted the following update to their Facebook page yesterday afternoon regarding the status of snow removal, safety on Rte. 28.
Good afternoon:
The Selectman as well as our own staff have been monitoring your emails and concerns about the continued effort to deal with snow.
Last nights new deposit, culminated with two serious water main breaks have kept DPW crews straight out.
Tomorrow morning they will again address cutting improved “site lines” on specified streets and narrowing others. RESIDENTS do not have to email their concerns. Nearly every street has been received and all complaints logged, reviewed and prioritized. This will take a lot of time and continued effort.
Rte 28 Upate- late last week MassDot sent crews to all of the intersections from Eager Rd to Ridgewood. Some they pushed back to open up site lines. Rte. 28/Nahanton Ave had five truck loads of snow taken away. The roads are clear curb to curb. We do not expect them to return again.
Everyone knows Rte 28 is a busy roadway. We have urged “caution” in so many ways to motorists. Extra caution is all that is needed. For residents of these neighborhoods, Ridgewood was opened the widest given the wooded backdrop on the left side. This provides the best site lines. MassDot is overwhelmed and we still need work on the lower end of Rte 138 which they have not addressed.
Our final point today is that there are no streets in Town that MPD or MFD cannot successfully access. We have been logging dozens of calls for all types of incidents and emergencies each day, and have accomplished every one. The DPW continues to sand and salt daily. We could also use a little help from Mother Nature in the form of gradual melting.
Each day these workers are doing their best. Milton is not alone. All our neighbors are in the same battle. Last weeks huge effort did remove thousands of tons of snow from streets all over Milton. The evidence of this work is evident in the large snow farms across this community, many of them captured in your own photos and comments.
This has been a winter all of us wishes to forget. Spring is days away and when July arrives with those oppressive 90 degree humid days, embrace them, and think back to the February you have just endured!!!
Hang in there….
