Janet graduated from Harvard/Radcliffe College in 1959 followed by the University of Rochester School of Medicine in 1963, one of but four women in a class of sixty. Always the trailblazer and ahead of her time, she was board certified in Pathology and worked/taught at the New England Deaconess Hospital and Harvard Medical School. After 20 years, she retired to focus on what always mattered most, her family.
Simultaneously, she began to advocate for causes about which she remained passionate to the end. Most notable was drug prevention. As president of Drug Watch International she spoke and wrote tirelessly, ultimately testifying before Congress. She is survived by her dear Allen, husband and soulmate of 51 years, and three children of whom she was most proud; Ian Dundee Lapey, CPA, MBA, fund manager, of Pelham Manor, NY, Kathleen Allen Lapey Weiss, Ph.D., clinical psychologist, of Manchester, ME, and Sarah Elisabeth Lapey, MD, internist / hepatologist of San Antonio, Texas, plus five grandchildren.
