Chase Old Man Winter away when the Quincy Choral Society swings into spring this March. Tap your feet to the music of George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, and Jimmy Van Heusen. The concert will be held at Quincy Catholic Academy Auditorium (formerly known as The Sacred Heart School) on Sunday, March 15. The afternoon includes a silent auction and bake sale to benefit the chorus. Auction bidding begins at 1:15 p.m. The program, “Swingin’ into Spring!” begins at 2:00 p.m. Quincy Catholic Academy is located at 370 Hancock Street, North Quincy. Tickets are $5.00 and will be available at the door. This popular event will be sold out, so come early to buy your ticket and bid.
Milton residents singing on March 15 include George Corbett, Dwight Dewsnap, Cyndi Fedewa, Adelaide Haynes, Roger Haynes, Ted Hays, Brian Kelley, Laurie Macintosh, Martha McMahon, Emma Jean Moulton, Paula Murphy, Sandra Peterson, Kristie Randall, Francine Ravelson, Barbara Stoller, Sarah Wehle, Marilyn Whipple, and Mark Whipple.
The Quincy Choral Society was founded in 1981 for the purpose of bringing musical excellence to the South Shore and the world. Members sing with music in their hearts, performing diverse, professional quality programs designed to entertain, enlighten, and enrich the human spirit. The chorus regularly performs locally, has performed in music festivals in Washington, D.C., and in Europe, and has been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in June 2015 as part of the Masterworks Series. Maestro John Nichols was named music director of the Quincy Choral Society in 1988. Mr. Nichols has been involved with the musical life of Greater Boston for more than 35 years as a conductor, composer, arranger, performer, adjudicator, and educator. Milton resident Virginia “Gingy” Grimes has been the accompanist for the Quincy Choral Society since 1993. Ms. Grimes received her piano accompaniment degree from Duke University and accompanies various ensembles and soloists throughout the Boston area.
