Food notes: Wine dinner at Tavolo; nice Rhone at Esprit du Vin; ester dinner postponed

On March 3, from 6:30p.m. to 8:30p.m.Tavolo and the Fruit Center will be  be teaming up in Dorchester, for a five-course wine dinner. Chef Alex Horowitz of Tavolo has created a five-course menu, and the Fruit Center’s wine buyer Tim Paulus has paired some fantastic wines to each dish. Tim will be at Tavolo during the event to discuss each wine pairing. The dinner includes a 1) Tuna Crudo Calabrian chili oil, fennel, lime, pickled chili, foccacia crostini served with Montinore Pinot Gris, 2) a house Made Cotecchino Sausage berry mostarda, Italian lentils served with San Felice Chianti Classico, 3) Braised Veal Breast potato-ricotta ravioli, cippolini marmalade served with Chateau de Capitans Julienas Beaujolais 4) Cheese Course mItalian artisinal, accoutrements and 5) Lavender Panna Cotta toasted hazelnuts, vanilla-kumquat compote served with Dell A’cquese Moscato d’Asti. Today’s Globe had a round up of Rhone wines. One of the selections featured can be found at Esprit Du Vin. The Globe describes the Domaine de Piaugier Sablet Cotes du Rhone-Villages 2012 as having “attractive scents of plum skin and rose petals in full bloom greet the nose. This elegant red offers a lovely weight in the mouth, full of peppery-savory warmth, rounded tannins, and appealing red fruit. Around $17.

The “Don’t give up hope” dinner scheduled for tonight, Wednesday, 2/25 at ester’s, has been postponed until March 19th due to snow. The special 4-course dinner, paired with wines costs $65/pp, call 617.698.2261 for reservations.
