Nothing Good Happens in the Woods: Teens and Drinking

A Milton resident and psycholgist, Tara Cousineau, wrote a piece for the Huffington Post on teen drinking. It’s an issue. The article was circulated widely on local social media but if you missed it – it is worth a read. Ms. Cousineau begins:

“The woods is a dangerous place,” croons Prince Charming to the Baker’s Wife. Indeed, with the recent film release of Into the Woods, I can’t help but dwell on the timeless metaphor of a journey through the forest as approximating ordeals and temptations in the lives of intrepid teenagers.     I know there is a broader discussion regarding this post, but I wanted to make a few brief points about the friend in this blog post:
    For those parents who are complicit in allowing their kids to drink in ‘the woods’ and are actively involved in dropping them off to do so, perhaps you could consider helping your high school aged children organize a trash pick-up (namely the cans and broken bottles) in the woods of Cunningham Park? Or maybe you can just send them a ‘please don’t break bottles and trash the woods’ text before you pick them up? The many dogs who have likely suffered lacerations on their feet would appreciate it.
