Preservation Massachusetts has listed the Swift Hat Shop here in Milton as one of the Commonwealth’s most endangered historic resources.
In their citation they write:
Jim Igoe, President of Preservation Massachusetts feels strongly about the future of the Swift Hat House. “Designating this remarkable resource to this year’s endangered list allows us to promote the importance of the Swift Hat House of Milton on a statewide level in effort to see a positive preservation outcome.“
It is the nominator, Joanna Spinks’s hope that being on the list will help the house gain visibility, garner interest and steps will be taken toward complete renovation. “I believe the listing of this building as a Historic Resource would encourage the Town of Milton to recognize and preserve its own history and cultural integrity by agreeing to move the building onto town land, thereby saving it from demolition.”
Ms. Spinks is a Milton resident. You can find the full citation here.
