Last year, Celebrate Milton!,  an annual event that champions the town’s diversity and sense of community, was cancelled due to the weather’s failure to cooperate. Yesterday was a different story. Aside from a little wind, the weather was perfect. And so it was fitting that the organizers took the opportunity to honor both this year and last year’s Community Builders.

And here they are!

The Celebrate Milton working group on their web site state that the award “recognizes efforts to make Milton a more open and inclusive community to diverse populations. The award is given to organizations or residents of Milton who have been instrumental in bringing together people of diverse backgrounds to interact, develop an understanding of one another, and to engage in civic activities to make the town a more open and inclusive place to live.”

The 2013 Awardees were Yolanda Beech, past Assistant Principal at Milton High School. and Elizabeth Thomas, who perhaps summed up the spirit of the day best when she said, “Let’s keep the unity in community.” Click on an image for a larger view.

The 2014 Community Builder Awards went to Paula Sullivan Hailer, Temple Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills, Friends of the Milton Public LIbrary, and the Tucker School Garden. CONGRATS ALL!
