On Wednesday, October 8th at 7:00 PM, the Learning Circle Preschool will host Priscilla Hayden-Sloane, MHA, OTR/L LEND Fellow and Occupational Therapist for a presentation designed to enhance each participant’s understanding of current research about brain development and the relationship between a child’s sensory experiences and his or her ability to respond appropriately to social, environmental and academic demands.
Brain and body development are critically linked. It is through sensory processing and body movement that the brain organizes the sensory input needed for developing body awareness and motor control. Gross motor development supports fine motor development including the muscles in the face and hands. Therefore facial expressions and social engagement can be influenced by sensory play. Sensory and motor learning create a link to the development of language, social skills and emotional development.
The discussion will include opportunities to:
- Identify the seven senses and their impact on attention, behavior and learning.
- Discover how weight bearing influences the development of gross and fine motor skills
- Understand the relationship between head control, vision, joint attention and social engagement
- Learn techniques to enhance the development of social relationships and behavioral self-regulation across settings
