Kenneth Aubert, the recently retired Guidance Director at Milton High School, has been charged by the Norfolk County District Attorney’s office with 5 counts of larceny. The larceny counts involve funds collected for Advanced Placement testing fees from 2009 – 2013. Aubert is alleged to have taken “roughly $30,000,” according to the DA’s office. Aubert plead not guilty to the counts in August. The development was reported by Superintendent Gormley, who wanted the public to be aware of the issue, during her Superintendent’s report at this evening’s school committee meeting. (You can find the text of Ms. Gormley’s statement here.)

Aubert retired at the end of the 2012-2013 school year. Ms Gormley stated that the schools contacted local authorities immediately upon learning of the matter. They co-operated with and will continue to co-operate with the Milton Police Department and the Norfolk County District Attorney’s office. “The allegations are theft from the Milton Public schools and some of our students,” Ms. Gormley said. She said that no student test scores were impacted.

Gormley said that the schools have retained an outside consultant to review financial practices and how handling of cash can be strengthened. She closed by saying that she “hopes everyone can understand that there are limits to what she knows and what she can say” as it is an ongoing case and that any questions should be directed the Norfolk DA’s office.
