During the month of October, the Milton Public Library is offering a wide variety of great programs for adults.
There will be a college planning workshop on Tuesday, October 7th at 7 PM with Milton resident and educational consultant Veronica Guerrero Marcia. With 20 years of experience in education and college admissions, her goal is to get every student into the “best fit college” for their success.
On Wednesday, October 8th at 7 PM, author and historian Anthony Sammarco will present his new book called Lost Boston which is about vanished local landmarks including schools, churches, theatres and more.
On Thursday, October 16th at 7 PM author Suzanne Strempak Shea will talk about her biographical book called This is Paradise: An Irish Mother”s Grief, An African Village’s Plight and the Medical Clinic that Brought Fresh Hope to Both. This is the story of a former guidance counselor from County Kerry Ireland who founded a medical clinic in Malawi in memory of her son, which has provided aid for over 275,000 people. Come hear this inspiring story!
For those hardy travelers out there, you can explore the world of Road Scholar on Saturday, October 18th at 11 AM. This not-for-profit leader in educational travel since 1975 offers 5500 educational tours in all 50 states and 150 countries.
Monday Night at the Movies continues on Monday, October 27th with the Oscar nominated film “Argo”. This movie is about Iranian rebels in 1979 who surround the American embassy, taking all staff members hostage…well, not quite all. The film is based on a true story and is rated R for some language and some violent images, and it won “Best Picture” at the 2013 Academy Awards. It is not suitable for children and will start promptly at 6:30.
To help us all celebrate Halloween, learn more about the “Haunted History of New England” on Tuesday, October 28th at 7 PM with lecturer and historian Christopher Daley. This presentation melds historical fact together with legend and myth to produce an interesting and fascinating look at events which really happened and the stories of haunting that followed them.
Rounding out the October calendar are our free ongoing programs including First Friday Book Chats with Library Director Will Adamczyk, on Friday, October 3 at 11am, and Knitting with Nina which takes place on Thursday, October 2 at 7pm, and Saturday, October 18 at 10am.
Taking a look forward to November, come experience a musical journey through 100 years of The American Popular Songbook on Saturday, November 1st at 2pm. There will be a concert called “Music Through the Decades” featuring singer and pianist David Polansky. This will be a fun event for the whole family, so please join us.
