Looking for a clue

One of the neighborhood pets is in the doghouse, hiding with an absconded with toy.  Who’s the pet and what’s the toy?  That was the premise of the Clue, Jr. Festival at the Milton Public Library this past Saturday.  Eighty people, parents and children ages 4-11, participated in the fully-subscribed program that ran in four sessions.  The inspiration of children’s librarian Miss Sara, who organized and led the event, Clue Jr. was sponsored by the Friends of the Library’s Milton Reads program, which this year is reading Sherlock Holmes.

“This game differs from traditional Clue,” explained Miss Sara, “because I like our children’s room to be happy and not about murder.”  Families were assigned colors—the Mustard family, the Peacock family, and so on— rolled the giant inflatable dice, and proceeded along a life-size playing board set up in the Keys room. They visited a living room, basement (complete with laundry), bedroom, and kitchen, discovering hidden evidence. The lobster was hiding in the laundry basket. And the first to deduce the culprit enjoyed the thrill of victory!

Sara Truog was assisted by volunteers of the Friends of the Library and particularly by Milton High School teens, thanks to the participation of young adults librarian Amy Rosa.

The Milton Public Library has blossomed under the inspiration and dedication of our children’s and young adults librarians.  Clearly, the next generation loves their library.

Here is a slide show of the event.
