On Wednesday, August 27th, St. Mary of the Hills School welcomed back students and families at the annual Welcome Back Picnic. The school celebrated the end of the summer and start of the year with a cookout hosted by Fasano Catering. The kids enjoyed hamburgers, hotdogs and of course ice cold popsicles!
The school purchased two brand new picnic tables for the Early Childhood Center. The students all took turns painting beautiful designs, names, and patterns on the tables, led by art teacher Laurinda O’Connor. Colorful paints were graciously supplied by PTO President Carmen Alvarado, and former SMH parent Mr. Warton.
The night was topped off with a movie under the stars! Families brought lawn chairs and blankets as they gathered together on the field to watch “Dolphin Tale” on a 40 foot inflatable screen from Fun Flicks.
Aside from their eagerness to meet their new teachers, the students were excited to be back with their friends and start off a brand new year. Students began school on Tuesday, September 2nd. St. Mary of the Hills welcomes a brand new principal, Mary Carberry, and a new 7th and 8th grade science teacher, Meghan Cole. The SMH community looks forward to another great year of teaching and learning, with new ideas every day!
