It has been a summer of service projects for the Boy Scouts of Troop 5, St. Agatha’s Milton. Three scouts, Sean Dowds, Timothy Eberhardt and Christian Jamal completed their community service projects this summer. As part of the requirements to earn the Eagle Rank, young men need to give leadership in accomplishing a project that benefits their local community. Between the three projects, more than 75 scouts, adults and community members contributed over 200 hours of community service. Sean is working on a public education project about the benefits of using mass transit. A mural painted by the volunteers will hang at Milton High School this coming fall. Timothy’s project involved installing a rope fence at the Wakefield Estate. Christian installed three benches at Kelly Field overlooking the tennis courts. These benches will be a welcome addition for the many community members who play and watch tennis over at Kelly Field, and to the Milton High School Tennis Team, of which Christian is a co-captain.
Community service projects require the support of the community and the Troop would like to thank Erica Max and Mark Smith of the Wakefield Estate and the art department and Mr. Jette at Milton High School. A big thank you to Dave Perdios and the Park Commission for their support of the bench project at Kelly Field and to Pete Jackson for his support and guidance as the project was in its planning stages. The benches at Kelly Field were supported, in part, by donations from community members and the Milton Boosters. Be sure to look for the dedication plaques in the fall.
Troop 5 is lead by Mike Haviland and is based at St. Agatha’s Church. The troop is comprised of 45 scouts from Milton, Quincy, Canton and Easton.
