Eliza O’Donnell, a rising 8th grader at PIERCE MIDDLE SCHOOL, received a Grand Prize RING Award for Photography 7-9 in the first of what soon will be many RING Awards presented by Ringling College of Art + Design, in Sarasota, FL.
The Ringling College of Art and Design RING Awards Storytelling Contest “images and words” is a national competition that encourages students in grades 7-12 (ages 13-20) to meet the challenge of communicating through a variety of media in this new century.
The theme of the “images and words” contest was UNDER THE SAME SUN, which can be related to many subjects, including language arts, fine arts, social studies, and science. Our inspiration for the theme came from author Sharon Robinson (daughter of baseball legend Jackie Robinson) who, in her new book titled “UNDER THE SAME SUN”, presents the story of a family from the United States visiting relatives in Tanzania. Despite the distance that separates the two families, they are always together in their hearts under the same sun.
Attached is our press release, a photograph of Eliza receiving the award with Sharon Robinson, Dr. Larry Thompson (President of Ringling) and Rich Kaplan (VP of Marketing and Innovative Partnerships), and a photograph of all the winners. Photography by Karen Arango.
