State Representative Walter F. Timilty, a member of the budget –writing House Ways and Means Committee, has announced that House Bill 4191, “An act granting an additional license for the sale of alcoholic beverages in the town of Milton,” has been passed to be engrossed in the House of Representatives. As the lead sponsor of this home-rule petition, Timilty filed this legislation in the House of Representatives, with Senator Brian A. Joyce serving as a co-sponsor.
Timilty has been instrumental in securing passage of this legislation, providing for a liquor license for 554-558B Adams Street, the former East Milton Square Movie Theater, within the House of Representatives. With engrossment in the House of Representatives, House Bill 4191 has moved, legislatively, onto the State Senate.
This process was initiated at the Town of Milton’s Annual 2014 Town Meeting. Article 39 which requested that a Home Rule petition be filed in the Massachusetts State Legislaturewas, was adopted by Town Meeting. Article 39 requested that a Home Rule petition be filed in the Massachusetts State Legislature. House Bill 4191 seeks to codify the Board of Selectmen’s authority to grant a liquor license to said address.
Commenting on yesterday’s passage, through the engrossment stage in the House of Representatives, which is the most important stage in the House, Timilty reiterated, “Today’s, proposed legislation is all about the promotion of economic growth. Accordingly, it is my priority to ensure that small businesses prosper in such a way that affords increased amenities for all of the citizens of the Town of Milton: thereby, carrying out the wishes of our annual Town Meeting.”
