What needs to be considered at the state legislative level is an initiative comparable to the “circuit breaker” statute which currently applies only to real estate taxes but would bring some relief to those least able to pay their water and sewer bills.
A new “circuit breaker” must be considered for the elderly and those on fixed incomes in Milton and other MWRA communities as the MWRA Water/Sewer rates are fixed without any breaks for the elderly or others.
As we all know, the MWRA imposed water and sewer assessment are approaching and sometimes equaling Milton Real Estate Taxes.
It is time to give serious relief to those residents and not just the alleged scofflaws who have not paid their water or sewer bills for a number of years. Those elderly on fixed incomes are being decimated by their water and sewer bills. Just telling the elderly to use less water is not a suitable, justifiable or moral response.
Time to petition Senator Joyce and Representative Timilty to introduce a circuit breaker amendment in the legislature to bring some relief to the elderly or those on fixed income who are encountering these unchecked MWRA Water/Sewer bills.
