Two local librarians – one from the public schools and one from the public library – have been collaborating on a special project which aims to educate students about the vast resources available to them at the Milton Public Library and its website.
Lori Henry and Sara Truog have been working together on the “MPL and MPS: Community Partners for Student Success Take Two” project. Funded by the Milton Library Foundation and now in its second year, the project sent both librarians into the public schools to teach classrooms of elementary students about how to access resources at the library. This year alone, more than 2,000 students were reached as a result of this program.
“The ‘Take Two’ program exposed all of Milton’s elementary school students to the importance of the Milton Public Library’s mission to enrich the community by connecting people to the world of ideas, information, and imagination to support their work, education, personal growth and enjoyment,” said Lori Henry. “The initial project demonstrated that through thoughtful, collaborative efforts within the community, students gained an appreciation for the Milton Public Library as a local and virtual resource in the pursuit of life-long learning and access to information. ‘Take Two’ advanced this cause.”
Ms. Henry said that the staff at the Milton Public Library continues to gather statistics in the Children’s Room and reported that students may continue to redeem their prize coupons through May. “We are confident that the word about the Milton Public Library’s physical and virtual resources for students is spreading all over town, reaching new audiences, and being reinforced for those who we worked with last year.”
