Yesterday’s mini-Relay for Life, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, raised over $17,000 as of late yesterday afternoon for the organization and that number will grow. There were close to 30 teams participating as well as walk-ins and a variety of town officials. Milton High School student Matt McCarthy was the co-ringmaster of the event with Tansy. They and their team did an amazing job of organization and programming. There were a variety of activities and competitions including face painting, volleyball and pie-eating.
Teams walked from 2:00 – 9:00 in solidarity and support of cancer patients and survivors as well as in memory of those lost to the disease. The event closed with a Luminaria, a tribute to victims in which the lights were dimmed and “candles” in bags were lit.
Here are some photos from the event.
This event was a testament to the incredible leadership shown by our students in the Milton Public Schools. I have not been to an event all year that was as fun, organized, and full of energy as this event run by Matt McCarthy and his team. They were able to get the adults to participate in anything just by asking. (Thank you Frank for not posting all the pictures of us participating in Dodgeball, Zumba, and the pie eating contest) Great job Matt and all the students who helped make this event a great success.
