An exciting family concert of A Cappella music is on the program as Cong. Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills and Temple Beth Abraham of Canton host “Voices Lifted for Israel,” a free musical celebration in honor of the two synagogues’ Passport to Israel programs, on Sunday morning, May 4th. It features two outstanding college Jewish A Cappella groups, Manginah from Brandeis and Shani from Harvard. The program is supported in part by a grant from CJP’s South Area Planning Committee.
The event is at Temple Beth Abraham, 1301 Washington St., Canton. It begins at 10 a.m. with a meet-and-greet with light refreshments available, and continues at 10:30 with a “Sing-Along with our College Stars” for children as well as adults. Manginah and Shani will perform from 11 a.m.to Noon. The public is invited to attend, and no RSVP is required.
Although there is no admission charge, donations will be accepted to support Passport to Israel, a program which raises funds to help teens travel to Israel.
Manginah is Brandeis University’s premier co-ed Jewish a cappella group. Manginah (mahn-gi-nah) is Hebrew for “melody”. Founded in 1994, Manginah sings a mix of Israeli pop music, classic Jewish melodies, folk songs and alternative pieces.
Shani is Harvard’s Jewish a cappella group, founded in 2007, with a repertoire ranging from Debbie Friedman to 16th century liturgical arrangements. The group’s commitment to social action work through Jewish music blends with a healthy dose of humor and a warm inclusivity among performers and audience alike.
