Today I am announcing my candidacy for Trustee of the Milton Public Library. The Library stands at the center of our community and deserves to be preserved, promoted, and perpetuated. As a Town Meeting member since 2001 and a former member of the Warrant Committee, I believe that I have the experience and temperament to serve the Library and the community that it serves in a meaningful and effective manner.
My wife, Patricia (Pat), and my children Meg, Jack, Francesca, and Anna, have lived in Milton since 1988. Our children attended Milton Public Schools.
I am running for Trustee of the Milton Public Library to preserve all that is good about the Library, promote the Library’s assets and services, and lay the ground work for ensuring that the Library is perpetuated as Milton’s cultural and learning center. I am convinced that the Library is the cultural center of the Town and that the role of the Trustee is to help guide and support the Library as it fulfills its mission.
I believe that my experience on the Warrant Committee and as a Town Meeting Member will serve me well as a Trustee, as I work to preserve, promote, and perpetuate the Library. The Library faces many challenges as it seeks to expand its cultural and educational influence on the community, not the least of which is the increasing pressures on its revenues. As a Trustee I will do all I can to help the Library get a fair share of the federal, state, and private funding available and to make certain that those funds are spent wisely and effectively.
The term of this next Trustee will include the new Long Range Plan for the Library. I want to be part of that process as we examine what we have and how we can increase and improve the Library’s service to Town of Milton over the next five years.
I am currently Deputy General Counsel at Steward Health Care System LLC and handle labor and employment issues for our eleven hospitals and 17,000 employees. Prior to this position I was a labor and employment attorney for First Student and its predecessor Laidlaw. From 1991 to 1996 I was Deputy Chief of Staff at the MBTA.
I am asking that you cast 1 of your 3 votes for me for Trustee of the Milton Public Library on Tuesday, April 29, 2014.
John is the real deal.

Delighted to hear that John is running. He brings great credentials to the board and I am happy support him.
Great news that John is running for library trustee. I served on the Warrant Committee with John and found him to be a thoughtful, active participant. He has my support.
John has been a wonderful addition to the Warrant Committee and has contributed to the building of our new schools. Milton will be lucky to have his serve on the library board. I will be voting for John Folcarelli for Library Trustee.
I had the good fortune to serve with John on Warrant Committee and found him to be knowledgeable, thoughtful, and courteous. My hope is that he will have the opportunity to bring those same qualities to the Library Board.
