Living through this past winter season is like listening to a record that skips. I am watching the snow falling . . . again. And it is likely to be falling again tonight, tomorrow, and a couple of days this week.
At the moment the National Weather Service is warning of “hazardous weather conditions.” Look on the bright side. This is not as bad as a travel advisory. In other good news the temperature this morning is almost freezing. Enjoy it while you can. Tomorrow everything will go back to normal with a low of 8 degrees. Look at it this way. You can experience what it is like to live in Minnesota without going there.
A couple months ago one might have shrugged and said, “But this is New England.” True; but I don’t recall anything with quite the unrelenting quality of this one. One expects it to be cold and snowy. But this cold and this snowy? Too bad we couldn’t have given our winter to Sochi.
The DPW may be looking at the forecast and mumbling “Just shoot me.” The salt and sand expense is going to be . . . well, let’s not think about that right now. (It is somewhere ouch and boing). But if the snow does come I expect the DPW will be on top of it as they have been all season. It has been a challenging season and Joe Lynch and his team have done a very good job. Thank you!
Lastly, there is a bit of a silver lining to this season. The deep snow and bitter cold will only make the first bird songs, green shoots, and lengthier days all the more enjoyable.
About the DPW: we had a thaw a little while ago, that revealed a significant pothole near my house. Not too wide, but deep! Not three days after I noticed that pothole, I saw it had been filled.
That’s responsive government. Many roads in Milton are in deplorable condition, but our DPW is clearly doing its best to apply needed patches. Kudos to them.

Has anyone noticed that Central Ave. has become “Hell’s Highway”? A drive on this main road has become an obstacle course. If you drive down that street every day
your car will be soon in the repair shop for a number of new expensive parts. There
must be some state money for some long overdue work!
Like you, I am on Central Avenue daily. It is an interesting trip every time.
The funding for repaving Central Ave is allotted by the Town. Some preliminary work was performed in the fall before winter set in.
Joe Lynch and his crew at Public Works have committed to do this work when the weather allows.
I have found that the DPW has consistently been receptive to emails reporting potholes in town,,,we are all the eyes on the road and potholes can only be repaired when the DPW receives notice of their specific location. Some will have to wait until warmer weather but some can be filled sooner.
