News Release from the Friends of the Blue Hills
Leave the winter blues behind and join the fun at this year’s Blue Hills Winter Fest, on Tuesday, February 25, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Blue Hills Ski Area. Come for a night hike with a naturalist or get your exercise on the slopes with downhill skiing. There will be plenty of indoor fun, too. Adults and children alike can do a jig to the spirited Irish tunes of Songs For Ceilidh, sample some piping hot chili and vote for their favorites, make some creative winter crafts, and warm up to the company of old and new friends in the cozy ski lodge. Blue Hills Brewery will also be on hand selling select beers produced at their microbrewery in Canton, and additional refreshments will be available at the snack bar.
This will be the first time the new owners of Bents will be competing in the Chili Cook-off at Winter Fest. Co-owner Chris Twyman will be debuting his wife’s special recipe for turkey chili and is confident the restaurant will take first place in the contest. “We have been thinking of adding chili to our menu for a while now,” Twyman said. “I look forward to adding ‘Prize-Winning Recipe’ next to it!” Local elected and town officials will serve as judges, and a “people’s choice award” will also be presented.
According to Vero Piacentini, manager of the Blue Hill Ski Area which is co-sponsoring the event, the ski conditions have never been better on the slopes due to the recent snow storms and cold weather. “Winter Fest is the perfect opportunity to show lots of new visitors what a great place this is to ski,” Piacentini said. As added enticement, Blue Hills Ski is offering discounted rates of $20 each for lift tickets, ski rentals, or lessons that evening. To receive the discount, print out and bring the Friends of the Blue Hills websitewww.FriendsoftheblueHills.org or Facebook page.
The Friends of the Blue Hills is celebrating its 35th year in 2014.
