Eleven Milton residents are headed to Louisiana for St. Michael’s Episcopal Church’s 6th Annual Mission Trip to New Orleans. From January 25 through February 1, the group will volunteer at St. Paul’s Homecoming Center which helps rehabilitate houses, and Loaves and Fishes which provides relief to those experiencing hunger.
The volunteers are all parishioners of St. Michael’s Church in Milton and joined the mission in an effort to help rebuild a community devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and Hurricane Isaac in 2012.
“The experience has been eye-opening and extremely rewarding,” says Lana Agnew who has participated in all six mission trips. “Without the help of volunteer groups such as ours, many individuals would not receive the services and assistance they so desperately need to pick up the pieces and rebuild their lives.”
While in New Orleans, the group will stay at Trinity Episcopal Church’s “Molly’s House” located in the Garden District of New Orleans. The trip is financed by the participants, donations to the church, and a grant from the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts.
Individuals who cannot physically participate in the trip are invited to remember the volunteers and people of New Orleans in spirit and prayer during St. Michael’s 8am and 10am Sunday services.
