Tickets on sale for St Rock Haiti Foundation Gala

Reverse Raffle and Gala Auction for Extending Care Through Community Health Workers

On February 6, 2014, the Neighborhood Club in Quincy will host the 4th annual Saint Rock Haiti Foundation (SRHF) Reverse Raffle and Gala Auction at 6:30 pm. Tickets are $100 each and include a light buffet and a chance for the reverse raffle.Only 500 tickets will be sold and the grand prize is $10,000. Jim Wells is back to act as MC and will pick the lucky ticket. Winners do not need to be present at the drawing. Tickets are available through Gala committee members or at www.saintrock.org.

The event is sponsored by St. Agatha Parish’s Global Outreach Ministry. Last year they raised over $66,000, the most successful year so far, and are hoping to surpass that amount this year. According to St. Rock Haiti Foundation President, Jocelyn Bresnahan, “The generous support of the Saint Agatha Parish community and others allows us to bring hope to people that face immensely difficult challenges every day.” The Gala Committee is offering sponsorship opportunities and soliciting items for the silent auction.

Proceeds from this year’s gala will be targeted toward growing a program of community health workers associated with the clinic located in the hills overlooking Port-au-Prince. “Community health workers are an integral part of expanding health care services in developing countries. Trained by medical professionals, these community members understand the importance of public health initiatives, but perhaps more importantly, they know the needs of their communities.  They are in a unique position — supporting patients and serving as liaisons between patients and the SRHF Centre de Sante,” said Maureen Ellis, SRHF Executive Director.

Established in 2002, the Saint Rock Haiti Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency working to provide health care and social services to the Saint Rock community with 94% of all funding going directly to medical clinic and community outreach programs. Several times a year, travelers from St. Agatha’s and the greater Boston area arrive in Saint Rock for weeklong stays. These volunteers help the Haitian staff there in a variety of ways from providing basic health care to supporting community development projects like the Clean Water Initiative.
