The swimmers are back!
A group of Milton High School students have been working out five days a week at the Egan Center pool and will be competing this winter against other high schools.
The group of 18 students, a mix of boys and girls, and all grade levels, are part of the fledgling swimming program at the high school. Last year, a smaller group of swimmers participated in the sport, but practices were held at the Weymouth Club.
“We are thrilled to be right here in Milton, less than a mile from the high school,” said Eileen Heller, who has helped to get the swim program off the ground. She said they is grateful to Chris Payson of the Shamrock Swim Club, who has been welcoming to the high school swimmers at the Egan Center pool.
The students, along with Coach Megan Adley, are looking for more high school students to join the sport. At least three meets are scheduled for this season, with the possibility of additional meets and/or scrimmages with other local swim teams.
Milton is the only town in the Bay State League without a varsity swim team. This group of swimmers hopes to change that, according to Heller, who said the biggest challenge is fundraising enough to keep the team self-sustainable for several years.
“The hope is to build this program into a strong, competitive, varsity swim team,” she said. “We are working hard towards that goal.”

Congratulations to the swim team. These students look so healthy.
Swimming a life long sport.
The town owes a BIG thanks to Chris Payson for donating the time for the swim club to use the Shamrock Club facility; he and it are an asset to the town; this story deserves greater distribution….why hasn’t the Milton Times taken notice?
