The Milton High School Debate team is proving to be stiff competition. Last Saturday Seniors Cormac Conners and Chris Dsida placed 2nd out of 54 teams at a competition held at Lexington High School. This followed another second place finish earlier in the month at Dighton Rehoboth HIigh. The pair were debating the benefits of the NSA’s domestic surveillance program.
Senior Captain, Chris Ricciuti placed 7th out of 108 debaters, in the individual speaking competition at the Lexington event.
This marks the second time in the last three years that a Milton team has placed second at the Lexington tournament, a major event on the debate calendar. In 2011, Maya Rosmarin and Ailsa Jeffries also made it to the final round. Although the MHS debate team is still waiting for its first tournament victory, the team has now placed second at three consecutive Massachusetts Speech and Debate League tournaments, going back to March, 2013, when Ms. Jeffries and Mr. Dsida placed second at the state championship, held at Milton High.
The debate team will compete next at Newton-South High School on January 11, 2014.
Congratulations to the MHS debate team and its coach on a great result! Good luck at your next competition in January. You represent Milton well.
Bravo MHS Debate Team and coaches! You make us all proud!
