In what has now become an annual tradition, the Pierce Middle School administration hosted a luncheon in the school library on Friday, November 1st to recognize students who achieved a score of 280 – (no mistakes) on the most recent MCAS exams.
“You don’t just wake up in 6th, 7th or 8th grade and decide you’re going to get a 280,” said Superintendent Mary Gormley, who addressed the students in the library during their luncheon. “You started in kindergarten. You worked hard and you kept working hard right up to now. I couldn’t be prouder of you.”
Dr. Karen Spaulding, Principal of Pierce Middle School, also praised the students, telling them that their participation in art, music and sports programs have all contributed to their success in school. But she also commended their commitment to academics.
“This is not an easy achievement,” she said. “You tried your best and we appreciate you.”
Assistant Superintendent John Phelan thanked the students for working hard, studying and doing their best work. “We make this a big deal because you are a big deal,” he said.
Students were treated to a lunch of sandwiches and rollups, as well as cake and other treats. Each student was presented with a certificate of achievement and was congratulated by their teachers and administrators.
