After having to leave their home of 80 years due to the sale of the Milton Woman’s Club, the Milton Players will perform The Diary of Anne Frank in their new, state-of-the-art theatre at the Massachusetts Hospital School in Canton November 1-10. The Pulitzer Prize-winning drama portrays the hopes and fears of the real-life Anne Frank, a Jewish girl in hiding with her family and neighbors in German-occupied Holland.

Milton resident Ken Carberry, who plays Anne’s father, believes that this show resonates with people not only because of its emotional impact, but because “the play has many surprises. It’s funny, touching and full of life.”

The play is also a curriculum piece of educational value, which supports the Milton Players’ partnership with their new host, the Massachusetts Hospital School. The MHS is a school that provides medical, recreational, educational and vocational services to 88 children and young adults with multiple disabilities. Brian Devin, the school’s CEO, welcomes the Players’ involvement on campus. “When the Players first approached us, we felt it might be a good fit and an opportunity to expand our community outreach efforts in a slightly different direction. We’ve prided ourselves on being a sports and recreation resource to specific outside groups, but the performing arts has the potential to bring enjoyment to a much wider spectrum of folks. I’d characterize it as a mutually beneficial adoption.” Director Frank Moffett, agrees, saying he is happy to increase the school’s exposure to theatre while at the same time enjoying the benefits of a much newer theatre. “The space, acoustics and lighting are wonderful. We look forward to seeing our long-time subscribers here and to welcoming newcomers from the surrounding communities.”

The Diary of Anne Frank runs November 1-10 at Brayton Auditorium at the Massachusetts Hospital School, 3 Randolph St., Canton, MA. For tickets or more information visit www.miltonplayers.org or call 617-698-7469.
