MPD Notice: DPW workers help thwart theft

The following was posted to the Milton Police Department’s Facebook page. You should friend them.

Tonight, we have a very positive success story about a break-in that happened on Highland St, around 1 pm. today. The case involves (2) very alert DPW employees and the collective effort of a dozen Milton officers, including officers who responded immediately from their details, detectives, K9 Hunter and others.

Shortly after 1pm, two DPW employees were on Highland St. near Reed St. At a home secluded from view somewhat near this location, they heard several loud bangs. A male subject had smashed out a side window and entered a home. The DPW workers summoned MPD immediately. Within seconds officers converged as the suspect was fleeing from the home on foot carrying several items from the home. Officers Wanda Craig and Mark Cimildoro pursued the man through several backyards into a wooded section off Randolph Ave. near the dump road. Many officers responded, securing the victim’s home and setting up a perimeter to corner this man. He was arrested in the woods after a short struggle. Officer Larry Lundrigan and his partner K9 Hunter conducting an article sweep of the woods recovered several items of value stolen from the home by the suspect. The subject discarded them in the woods during the foot pursuit. (although Larry and his partner took about 20 bee stings recovering these!!) The suspect, a male in his late 20’s remains in police custody on $10,000 bail.

This case is a classic example of how a negative offense came to a rapid and successful conclusion. Two very alert citizens who quickly summoned police at the mere possibility of such a crime were the ‘key” to this arrest.

As we noted earlier this week, these breaks are affecting all of Metro-Boston. As much as we laud the efforts here, another break happened on Canton Ave today (900 block) completely unrelated to this offense. Our collective efforts help suppress these crimes and in cases such as today, terminate the ability of an offender to repeat….Nice work by all involved today.
