DCR opens Houghton’s Pond for season

from the DCR

Each year, between Memorial Day and late June, DCR runs weekend-only schedules at many facilities until the full summer schedule begins. In the case of extreme heat at the end of this week, facilities that would be guarded on Saturday and Sunday will also be guarded on Friday.

“DCR is pleased to offer expanded lifeguarding services at your public waterfronts this Friday as the early summer heat rolls in,” said DCR Commissioner Edward Lambert. “Stop by, cool off or come and stay for the day. However you stay cool this weekend, please respect others and be safe. Stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and take shade breaks.”

Spray decks facilities not attached to a larger full pool facility are running and available for a
quick cool off every day from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily until September 2.

Lifeguards began weekend-hour-only staffing at many wading pools, as well as inland and ocean beaches this past Saturday. Most wading pools will be open weekends until June 29, when all remaining wading pools and full-sized swimming pools open for use seven days a week. Daily lifeguard coverage at Spectacle Island in the Boston Harbor begins on July 3.

Below is a list of facilities that will be guarded this Friday. Additionally facilities will be open this
weekend and weekends until June 22, when they begin their daily guarded schedules. For
