A long, sustained applause – photo by Steve Nelson

This evening  over 30 MHS alumni played a tribute to their string teacher, Ms Ostrem, for her years of dedication and life lessons she taught through music. She is retiring at the end of this year. The ensemble included students as far back as the class of 1996. Please click “Read more” for additional photos, a video by Brian Kelley that captures the spirit and warmth of the piece and the moment, Bernstein’s Somewhere from West Side Story, come through. The applause at the end of the piece was long, sustained, and so well deserved. Thank you Ms Ostrem . . . for everything.

Somewhere,  lyrics by Stephen Sondheim

There’s a place for us,
Somewhere a place for us.
Peace and quiet and open air
Wait for us
Somewhere.

There’s a time for us,
Some day a time for us,
Time together with time spare,
Time to learn, time to care,
Some day!

Somewhere.
We’ll find a new way of living,
We’ll find a way of forgiving
Somewhere . . .

There’s a place for us,
A time and place for us.
Hold my hand and we’re halfway there.
Hold my hand and I’ll take you there
Somehow,
Some day,
Somewhere!
