On Tuesday night at Abby Park a large group of supporters came out to support Mike Zullas in his bid for one of the two seats up for election to the Milton School Committee. The crowd represented every precinct in town and included elected officials and 10 current or past Warrant Committee members.
After a rousing introduction from Hank Bell, Zullas reviewed his background as a lawyer in the public sector as a Prosecutor of Public Corruption and in the private sector advising businesses and as in-house counsel for 5 different high-technology firms. He noted that the eldest of his two daughters is now in the midst of registration with the Milton Public Schools, and that over the last few years he has been working on school issues on the Warrant Committee, its Schools Subcommittee, the Capital Committee, and on the Milton High School Site Council.
“My vision is for a high-performing school system for all. Every candidate in this race supports French Immersion and the exciting promise of the STEM program. But that’s not enough. We need to channel every possible dollar into the classroom, which is why I’m proposing a consolidation of some business office systems that are redundant with Town Hall office systems. We need to aggressively tackle the achievement gaps that exist in student performance. And we need a 5-year strategic plan to guide our efforts and our budgeting.”
State Senator Brian A. Joyce was in attendance and noted: “Mike has great ideas , like eliminating the administrative redundancies. He knows firsthand the promise of great public school education, and he’ll have children in our system for the next 15 years”.
