Becky Padera pumped up the volume in her bid to be elected to the school Committee yesterday afternoon with a campaign kick off fundraiser hosted by the O’Keefe family. Ms. Padera was appointed to the school committee to serve out the term of Denis Keohane who was elected to the Board of Selectmen last April.

t was  literally a full house. Padera was introduced to the crowd by Carter Fahy who said simply, “We’re here for Becky.  .  . [who comes to the race] with an open mind .  .  . [and will] be speaking for the smallest voices in our community.”

Ms. Padera spoke of the sense of responsibility she felt when she was appointed to the fill Keohane’s vacancy. She signed up for subcommittees and learned that simply showing up could get you appointed to one or two more. But she explained that it was on her tours of all six schools that the she knew she would take the bit and run for school committee, not content to simply serve out the term. She went from school to school and one after another they had their tales to tell and she walked away telling others “You won’t believe what they are doing at” . . . Pierce . . . Cunningham . . . Tucker etc.

“I have such pride in the schools,” said Padera, and spoke of the camaraderie among the school committee members. “We disagree but have the same goals.  .  . to find a way to do more each year.”

Se concluded saying, “I have a unique voice .  .  . and have been involved since my children’s first day of school.”
