by Frank Schroth

The home of the Milton Players, the Women’s Club on Reedsdale, is being sold. While details of the sale have not know, a P&S is expected to be signed soon, the Players have to be out by June. The Unexpected Guest, directed by Frank Moffett and scheduled for an April run, will be there last show at the location.

Founded in 1933 and in residence since 1934, The Milton Players have enriched the community with dramatic presentations of extraordinary variety and scope from musicals to tragedies. Productions have included The Odd Couple, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,  and A Street Car Named Desire.

In a conversation with Mr. Moffett, current President of the Players, he spoke of his hope for a new home in Milton or close by. A steering committee has been formed to explore options and opportunities. He noted that there volunteers and supporters who have been with the organization for 60 years but at the same time they are also attracting young, fresh membership. The organization is strong; but it needs to find a new home.

The Milton Players are a treasure of this community. In addition to the productions they stage, they also have a long histroy of philanthropy; making contributions to Milton Hospital and Milton Public Library and scholarships to Milton High students. They need space for performances and storage (one accumulates a lot of set design, wardrobes, etc in 80 years). Suggestions on possible venues and support can be emailed to Mr. Moffett at moffdram@beld.net.

Inquiries have been made to the Women’s Club regarding the the status of the sale. They have not yet responded.
