Bob Sweeney, who is up for re-election, put his campaign into drive last night with an event at Steel & Rye in a room awash with people, balloons, a slide show and posters one of which read, “Re-elect my Dad Selectman” courtesy of one his more ardent supporters.
Mr. Sweeney is completing his first term. He won election three years ago defeating the incumbent Kathy Fagan in a tight contest. As with his last campaign, this one has a lot of family involvement. There were brothers, sisters, nieces, and of course his daughter, sporting a bright red hockey jersey with the number 5, a number frequently worn by by Sweeneys when they take the field.
In his remarks to the crowd Mr. Sweeney said he was about family, neighborhoods, and town. He touched on work that needs to be done, citing “the mission” in East Milton Square and the $1,000,000 gift from the Copeland Foundation.
I am a needed voice for all of Milton and hoping that I can continue to be your voice.
Regarding his platform, Sweeney said, “I put the taxpayers first . . . I feel fiscally accountable [and] promote smart growth. I want to improve the business areas am a defender of residential neighborhoods and feel with your support we can continue. I am a needed voice for all of Milton and hoping that I can continue to be your voice.”
In concluding his comments Sweeney said he hoped with the support of those present that he could continue to provide a voice, one that had been lacking for a number of years. He said that he had a good working relationship with the selectmen and the newly appointed Town Administrator, Annmarie Fagan that in a number of years has been lacking. He noted that in his second year as Selectman Milton was voted the 2nd best place to live in America and that he hopes this term to see it ranked number 1.
