A free movie, The Snows of Kilamanjaro, will play at the Milton Public Library, 476 Canton Avenue in Milton (02186) in the Keys Community Room (lower level) on Thursday, March 21, 2013, beginning at 6:15 pm with refreshments and a movie trivia quiz. The film will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. After the movie, prizes will be awarded to trivia quiz winners. The event is hosted by Milton middle school teacher Jeff Stoodt, and is sponsored by The Friends of the Milton Public Library.
Based on Ernest Hemingway’s classic story, The Snows of Kilamanjaro (1952) stars Gregory Peck as a writer struggling to complete his work. Film aggregator Rotten Tomatoes notes: “The romantic, sentimental qualities embedded in the fine script are driven home by Bernard Hermann’s brilliant score. Theater operators actually feared that audiences would stay away from the film because they couldn’t pronounce Kilimanjaro, but the film turned out to one of the biggest hits of 1952. Peck co-stars with Ava Gardner and Susan Hayward.” The movie was nominated for two Academy Awards, Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction.
