Home Sweet Home

South Shore Habitat for Humanity (SSHH) is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering simple, decent, and affordable homes in partnership with families in need. South Shore Habitat serves Milton and 34 cities and towns, south and southwest of Boston.

On February 23, 2013 at 10:00 AM, South Shore Habitat for Humanity will welcome its newest family into homeownership as it delivers its 52nd home located at 259 Circuit Street in Norwell, a 2nd home for the Town of Norwell. SSHH and the Local Partnership Committee (LPC) invite you to join for a brief ceremony, followed by light refreshments and house tour. Parking is available at the Council on Aging, 293 Pine Street.

Since last January, volunteer groups from local congregations, civic and social organizations, businesses and schools have partnered together. Hammering nails, framing windows, laying flooring, painting, sanding, and doing whatever was needed, in order to provide this affordable homeownership opportunity for a deserving family. “What a true example of community collaboration and neighbors helping neighbors,” said Martine Taylor, Executive Director for South Shore Habitat for Humanity. “Meeting the family and seeing their new home will warm your soul, even on the coldest of February days,” said Cindy Christiansen, local Milton resident and member of the SSHH Board of Directors.

The organization uses a comprehensive evaluation process, founded on Habitat for Humanity International and DHCD guidelines, to select homeowner families based on need, income, and willingness to partner with Habitat. Families purchase South Shore Habitat for Humanity homes at cost, through a 20-year, no-interest mortgage. A perpetual deed restriction maintains the affordability of the house. The cost of building each home is raised through private donations, corporate contributions, and support from local community.
