Prinicipal Uretsky to leave Tucker at end of year

by Frank Schroth

Yesterday was a sad day for the Tucker School community and the Milton school district in general. Superintendent Gormley announced that Marcia Uretsky, Tucker’s highly regarded principal, would be leaving at the end of the year to take the helm of the Lincoln-Eliot Elementary School in Newton.

Ms. Uretsky came to Tucker in 2009 and in the words of Ms. Gormely, “worked tirelessly to promote high achievement for all Tucker students.” And the achievements were significant. Tucker was one of the highest performing schools in the state in terms of annual yearly progress of its student body as measured by MCAS scores.

We were fortunate to get to know Ms. Uretsky who once said, “You ask me – when did I become a teacher? . . . I don’t think I have ever not been a teacher.”

In a simple statement Superintendent Gormley said all there was to be said, “She will be missed.” We join the Superintendent and Tucker community in wishing Ms. Uretsky great success and happiness as she moves on. We have no doubt that she will continue to change lives for the better.

Here are some clips of a short film we made about Tucker.
