News release from Pauline Wells
In just over three weeks, America will commemorate the 11th Anniversary of attacks of 9/11/01. For over 3000 citizens, their day began just any other. We all know the shocking loss that would transpire. In New York City, 343 firefighters and 75 police officers would be killed responding to the airplane strikes into the World Trade Center. No day in modern history could ever witness such loss to first responders.
On Saturday evening September 8th, Milton resident and Cambridge Police Lieutenant will be joined by a celebrated group of musicians as she hosts “A Tribute to the Heroes of 9/11” at Boston’s Wilbur Theatre. Joining her will be the Boston Police Gaelic Column of Pipes and Drums who Pauline, together with members of the Irish group DEVRI, had to the privilege to travel with to New York City last year performing with them at the 10th anniversary NYPD 9/11 concert.
Also travelling to Boston to perform in this concert is the legendary New York City Police Pipes and Drums. Each of these NYPD officers had a very close and personal role during the horrific events of that fateful day. This will be the 4th time that both the Boston Police Gaelic Column and the NYPD band have commemorated this date together. The members of both bands are very close and as Pauline Wells stated from the stage during last year’s concert in New York City, “for the members of the Boston Police Gaelic Column and the NYPD Pipes and Drums, the heartbreak and loss of 9/11, has created friendships for today, for tomorrow and forever.”
Pauline Wells and DEVRI are no strangers to charitable events lending their talents to support cancer victims, military veterans, and many others. For this concert Wells has targeted the proceeds for the Massachusetts Fallen Heroes of Iraq and Afghanistan Memorial (www.massfallenheroes.org).
In the decade that has passed since 9/11/01, hundreds of young men and woman have enlisted in our Air Force, Army, Navy, Coast Guard and Marines, deploying across the globe in defense of freedom and this night is a salute to their sacrifices as well.
This concert promises inspiration and pride. It is surely and evening worthy of our time and attendance. For tickets www.thewilburtheatre.com or call Ticketmaster 1-800-745-3000. Show begins at 8 p.m.
