It is the smallest and most diverse school in Milton, MA, yet Tucker Elementary School consistently ranks high in school achievement. Tucker: Growing Forward, a documentary film, explores what makes Tucker School so successful.
The 30-minute film will be shown at Fuller Village on Monday, July 23, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. The event is free and open to the public.
“We keep hearing about Tucker School’s many achievements, its academic improvement, its success in mathematics and general teaching. And I wondered what’s going on at Tucker? What makes Tucker work?” explains film producer Frank Schroth of MyTownMatters.
Over the course of a year, Schroth, a web publisher and former educator, visited the Tucker School. “It became clearly evident that Tucker’s success lies in the circle of community created by the children, staff, and parents. Diversity is its strength, and the community embraces the notions of achieving one’s personal best, leadership, and family.”
Tucker: Growing Forward interviews the children, teachers, administrative leadership, and parents, and it shows classroom and playground interactions. “I’m going to miss Tucker,” laments a departing fifth-grader. And that sums it up.
The film was produced by Frank Schroth and directed by Michael Lynch. A special showing of Tucker: Growing Forward for students took place at the school’s end-of-year Tucker leadership assembly. Schroth was honored with a leadership award by the Tucker community. Mr. Schroth will be available for questions and discussion following the film. It was screened earlier this summer at the Milton Public Library.
