William F. Ritchie, Milton Consolidated Facilities Director, recently received the Outstanding Green Leader award at the State House. It is the most recent in a series of local, state, and national awards Mr. Ritchie has received as a result of his efforts to make Milton’s buildings more energy-efficient and raise conservation consciousness as both environmentally smart and financially beneficial.

Mr. Ritchie managed the Milton school facilities prior to his recent appointment as Director of the newly established Consolidated Facilities Department which oversees operation and management of 22 town buildings.

In 2001 Ritchie was one of the first Facilities Managers to write the School Districts first integrated pest management policy (IPM) and submitted it to the State. He also received the “Environmental Purchasing and Sustainability Award” in 2006 from Commonwealth of Massachusetts which was sponsored by the Massachusetts Operational Service Division, Executive Office of Environmental Affairs and the Department of Environmental Protection. This award was for improving air quality, removing toxic chemicals and for using environmentally friendly cleaning products. He was also recognized by the “Alliance for a Healthy Tomorrow” for his continued efforts in 2007 as being a true leader and pioneer in keeping children safe at schools.

On a final note, what impresses most people about Mr. Ritchie is his continued passion and positive attitude. At a recent school committee meeting,  during which he announced a new assistant Richard Mayhew, Ritchie restated his love of his work and his committment to making the town’s buildings energy-efficient and well maintained.
