This is the third in a series of programs related to the Wakefield Estate in conjunction with the 350th anniversary of Milton. This third topic is “The ‘Stuff’ of History: The Material Culture of a Milton Founding Family” presented by Valarie Kinkade and Rachel Salmond. Valarie, the owner of Museum and Collector Resource, a consulting firm, and Rachel, a librarian and bibliographer, will discuss and display items collected by the families who have occupied the Wakefield Estate for the past 250 years. Ms. Kinkade’s firm provides curatorial and collections management services to museums and private collectors nationwide. She holds a Masters in Archaeology from Yale University and a Certificate in Collections Care from the Campbell Center for Preservation Studies. Ms. Salmond has extensive experience in managing collections of early printed books. She has published a study of the transfer of printing technology in the mid-19th century to Britain’s furthest-flung colonies as a propaganda tool for colonial administrators. Recently she has been listing approximately 4500 books that the Wakefield Estate families accumulated over 250 years.
