Helpful tip from The Milton Animal League
It’s turtle time! This is the time of year when the Milton Animal Shelter receives a number of calls from residents about snapping turtles in their yards or along the road. Why are we seeing so many turtles? Because snapping turtles are laying their eggs now. Snapping turtles rarely leave the water except during the breeding season, at which time females travel great distances in search of a place to dig a nest and lay eggs. Some turtles have been found as far as a mile from the nearest water source. If you see one, leave it alone. If you move them they will turn around and start their trek again. If the turtle is in danger (e.g. crossing a busy road), call ACO Nancy Bersani at (617) 698-0455.
