Chairman of the Senate Committee on Bonding, Capital Expenditures and State Assets Brian A. Joyce announces Senate passage of a $1.5 billion transportation bond bill that will fund transportation-related projects throughout the state for Fiscal Year 2013. Senator Joyce also announces that the bill included funding for local road repairs, including $619,943 for Milton.

The bill authorizes the state to borrow $885 million to fund existing programs and ensures that state dollars will be available to leverage federal funding for transportation improvement projects totaling $1.5 billion.

The legislation also includes $200 million in Chapter 90 funds for cities and towns across the Commonwealth, representing the highest funding level to date. Cities and towns may use the funds for local projects, like rebuilding and repairing local roads and bridges.

“This investment in state road, bridge, and rail transportation projects is important for our continued commercial vitality and economic recovery, and the Chapter 90 funds will provide for much needed repairs to local roads throughout the state,” said Senator Joyce.

The bill now goes to the House of Representatives.
