MHS students asking for Trayvon Martin “hoodie day”

Beylul Negassi and a group of students have asked the MHS administration for permission to hold a “hoodie day” to raise awareness and encourage a dialogue regarding the Trayvon Martin case. Mr. Martin, an unarmed black teenager, was killed on Feb. 26 by George Zimmerman, a community watch participant in Sanford, Fla., who has said he acted in self-defense and has not been charged with a crime.

There have been numerous such “hoodie” events held nationwide (e.g. Bowie State University, Marley Middle School in FL, & several in Pittsburgh).

In a conversation with Ms. Nagassi, she said that the High School admnistration met on Thursday to discuss the request but had not come to a decision. The students hope to have resolution to their request early this week.

Wicked Local Milton met with the students and posted a gallery of photos. You can find the photos here and a related story here.
