This is amazing! Caeleigh MacNeil, a senior at Milton High School, was recently named a Semifinalist in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Ms. MacNeil, along with semifinalists nationwide, represent less than one percent of students who took the PSAT. More than 1.5 million students nationwide took this exam, which served as an initial screen of program entrants. Just to put a little perspective on that – your chances of being struck by lightning are 1 in 10,000.
To become a finalist, Ms. MacNeil must maintain an outstanding academic record, be endorsed and recommended by her principal, Dr. Joseph Arangio, earn SAT scores that confirm the earlier performance and submit a detailed application to the National Merit Scholarship Program.
But that’s not all! Three of her classmates were named Commended Students. The National Merit Program named David Collins, Laura Hess and Elizabeth Mahon Commended Students. These three students placed in the top five percent of the 1.5 million test-takers in the nation.
“Our Milton High students who excelled on these tests have shown outstanding academic potential,” said Ken Aubert, director of guidance for the Milton Public Schools. “They deserve this recognition and they deserve to know how proud we are of them.”
Congratulations to all four of these Milton High students on this fantastic recognition for their academic achievement.
